Gum Grafting and recession options

Your smile is as unique as you are, and treating gum recession shouldn’t be a “one size fits all” approach. Our gum health specialists offer a variety of advanced gum grafting options to help restore your gumline and achieve the results you desire. After your initial consultation, our expert team will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Whether you’re looking to address mild gum recession or require comprehensive grafting procedures, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Trust us to provide the care and support you need on your journey to healthier gums and a confident smile.

Connective Tissue Grafts

This is the most common gum grafting technique, ideal for covering exposed tooth roots. During the procedure, tissue is taken from beneath a small flap of skin in the roof of your mouth and carefully grafted onto the receding gum area. This method ensures natural-looking results and strong gum support.

Free Gingival Grafts

Used to enhance thin or weak gums, this technique involves removing a small piece of tissue directly from the roof of the mouth and attaching it to the affected area. It’s particularly useful for preventing further gum recession and strengthening the gumlin

Pedical Grafts

For patients with sufficient gum tissue near the receding area, a pedicle graft uses tissue from the gum itself by partially cutting and repositioning it to cover the exposed tooth root. This approach minimizes recovery time as it doesn’t require tissue from another site

Healthy Gums

Healthy gums are essential when considering a gum grafting procedure. If you have gum infections like gingivitis or periodontal disease, you might not be an ideal candidate right away. However, we can develop a personalized treatment plan to restore your gum health and prepare you for a successful grafting procedure.

Sufficient Gum Tissue

Having enough healthy gum tissue is vital for supporting the graft and ensuring a strong, natural-looking outcome. If you’re experiencing severe gum recession, we can assess your condition and recommend the best course of action to achieve optimal results.

Tobacco Free

Tobacco use can slow healing and reduce the success rate of gum grafting. We strongly encourage quitting tobacco to not only improve your oral health but also to increase the long-term effectiveness of your treatment.

Good Oral Health & Hygiene

A good candidate for gum grafting will have no active infections or other dental issues that could interfere with healing. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene after the procedure is key to supporting the recovery process and protecting the graft long-term. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups will play an important role in maintaining your results.

who is a good candidate for gum grafting

Gum grafting is an effective treatment for individuals experiencing gum recession, which can expose the tooth roots and jeopardize both oral health and aesthetics. Ideal candidates for gum grafting typically have areas of significant gum recession, healthy oral tissues overall, and a commitment to maintaining good oral hygiene. It’s especially beneficial for those who experience tooth sensitivity due to exposed roots or wish to enhance the appearance of their gumline.

Non-smokers tend to achieve better outcomes with gum grafting, as smoking can interfere with healing. Additionally, individuals without uncontrolled chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease are typically better suited for this procedure. Addressing any active gum disease before undergoing gum grafting is essential to ensure the best results.

4 Step Gum Grafting Process

From your initial consultation to the completion of your gum grafting procedure, our team is dedicated to guiding you every step of the way. Clear communication and setting realistic expectations are at the core of our approach. We believe that understanding each phase of the process not only helps you feel confident in your decision but also minimizes any anxiety you may have.

Step 1 - Consultation

Your gum grafting journey starts with a comprehensive consultation and assessment. During your first visit, our Specialists will take the time to thoroughly evaluate your gum health, identifying any signs of recession, sensitivity, or underlying issues. We’ll discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals in detail, ensuring you feel heard and understood. We’ll explain the gum grafting procedure step by step, outlining how it works, what benefits you can expect, and what makes it the best solution for your situation. We’ll do imaging to accurately assess the health and structure of your gums to create a personalized treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.

Step 2 - Prep and Planning

If we detect any issues, such as active gum disease or inflammation, we’ll address them first through targeted treatments. This may include deep cleaning, scaling, or other periodontal care. Our specialists will also provide you with clear pre-procedure guidelines, including oral hygiene practices and dietary recommendations, to help optimize the success of your grafting.

By laying a strong foundation, we ensure the procedure goes smoothly, and your gums are ready to heal quickly and effectively.

Step 3 - Precise Surgical Procedure

The gum grafting procedure itself is performed with your comfort, safety, and results in mind. On the day of the surgery, our highly trained specialists will use state-of-the-art techniques to carefully restore your gumline. Depending on your individual needs, we’ll choose the most appropriate grafting method, whether it’s connecting tissue from your palate or other adjacent areas, or using advanced allograft materials. Before starting, we’ll ensure the treatment area is completely numb so you feel no discomfort during the procedure. Using microsurgical instruments, our team will place the graft with exceptional care, ensuring a seamless and natural appearance. We prioritize a minimally invasive approach whenever possible to reduce downtime and allow you to return to your daily activities sooner.

Step 4 - The Healing Process

After your procedure, we’ll provide you with a detailed, personalized aftercare plan to aid in a smooth recovery. This plan will include specific oral hygiene instructions, dietary guidelines, and tips to minimize swelling or discomfort. Our dedicated team is always on hand to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor your healing process and ensure the graft has successfully integrated with your gumline. During these visits, we’ll check your progress and make any adjustments necessary to support your recovery. From start to finish, our specialists remain focused on your comfort, confidence, and long-term gum health.
